Central Florida's leading name in the anti-aging industry that deliver powerful, proven results!
At the Maki MedSpa & Wellness, we sometimes receive requests from patients who want to reverse their dermal filler results. This can come up for a variety of reasons, and we often see patients who initially received their filler injections at a different clinic.
In cases where hyaluronic-acid based fillers, such as Juvederm, were used for the initial injections, it is possible to dissolve or “melt” your filler injection. In order to accomplish this, we use a product called hyaluronidase, which is formulated specifically to dissolve the hyaluronic-acid based molecule chains that form the base for many injectable fillers.

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are commonly used because they produce very natural looking results and, as these compounds are often found naturally in the body, and have a low incidence of allergic reactions. One of the other benefits of these fillers is that they are reversible.
Hyaluronidase (sometimes known as hyaluronan) is a special enzyme that can quickly break down the bonds that hold hyaluronic acid-based molecules together. In effect, these injections can rapidly dissolve dermal filler results. Hyaluronidase is formulated to leave natural hyaluronic acid untouched, targeting only the synthetic forms of the compound found in dermal fillers.
Yes! The dermal filler dissolver we use is made of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Much like hyaluronic acid, hyaluronidase exists in the body naturally. It metabolizes hyaluronic acid, which is the material most modern fillers are made of.
As with all things in life, there is a very small risk of allergy, which may lead to redness and swelling immediately after the injection. It’s quite rare, but we can conduct a patch test if you think you may be at risk.
The dissolver starts to work almost immediately, and will usually dissolve most filler within 2 to 3 days. You may experience a bit of swelling or bruising immediately after your injection, but over the course of a few weeks it’ll go down, and you’ll be able to see your final results.
